HighDesertRose Vintage from the Cleveland Plain Dealer

Facing some challenges of late myself a thoughtful friend e-mailed this to me. Somewhere amongst the many quotes from this 90 year old lady I thought many of us might find ourselves and find some encouragement. A very Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! Written By Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer, Cleveland , Ohio "To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I've ever written. My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so… Continue

Dragonmum Thanks for all your prayers!

Thanks to all of you who offered your prayers and thoughts for my Mom. Something must be going well because this weekend she was back to her self with an appetite and good color. My Dad has more help in and gotten the hang of the Hoyer lift they have to use to transfer Mom (she can't even stand well & she's a big lady). I've arranged for my daughter to fly home from law school in New York for the weekend before T'giving just to be be sure she sees Mom before something happens. My brother &a… Continue

JenniferLynn's Finds Follow up to my last TVV post.

Well, the woman who contacted me about my "Vampirella" comics never got back to me, so I went ahead and got them listed this weekend. Feel free to head over to my shop to take a peek! I have 6 issues from the 1970s in very good shape. A couple have issues, which I have described for my buyers (I may go back and add photos of the issues later,) but for the most part, these comics look great! I'm happy to sell things like this and the Conan book, because along with all of my other interes… Continue

Wanderlust & Pixie Dust Fascinating blog, post on Victorian mourning...

Recently I stumbled upon the most fascinating of sites, full of far off places, mummies and Gothic arches. If you were a child like I was, who dreamed of seeing the pyramids of Egypt and of standing before Stonehenge, be sure to take a few moments to visit. This was exactly the sort of thing, except in book form, that helped to foster a lifelong love of history and the past. Never made it to the pyramids but I did get to stand before Stonehenge! Gizmos Halloween Costume For My Dog

Well, I never make or buy outfits for my dog because he absolutely hates it. But, I came up with this idea and decided I just had to do it. The hat came out kind of funky, but well, here is a couple of pics of my dog in his Napoleon-Admiral style outfit, epaulettes and all. You may start laughing now!

AlleyKat's To Market We Will Go...

Those of us that adore vintage items have reasons for it. Some of us are fond of the designs, or the patterns and fabrics used. Some of us enjoy having something with imaginable rich histories. Personally I have several reasons for preferring vintage pieces to the modern day mass marketed threads. I support the “reuse, reduce, recycle” campaign whole heartedly. Even to the point that I, a city dweller, have free ranging chickens in the backyard. Yep. I asked my hubby one day to build me a chicke… Continue

AlleyKat's Makeup Monday

Last week’s installment discussed the creation of your makeup canvas, and this week we’ll take a look at the next layer of color: Blush and contouring! I’ll start with a little history on the concept of contouring. This method uses light and dark to shade the planes of the face, adding depth to bring out the various features of one’s face. It is this subtle depth that prevents your makeup from looking flat. The famous Westmores invented the concept of contouring; this family team of makeup arti… Continue

SweetRice Buttons, buttons, buttons...

For years I have collected jars of buttons from estate sales. Going through the jars of buttons is like digging for treasure! When I was a child my mom had a large tin filled with buttons. My sisters and friends would spend rainy days sorting them and stringing them into beautiful necklaces and bracelets. Wonderful memories created from simple objects. That is why I cannot pass by a jar or bag of buttons, without wanting to spill them out and look them over. I have posted a few pictures of our e… Continue

Glamour n Glitz ANTIQUE JEWELRY - THE VICTORIAN ERA

Antique Jewelry - The Victorian Era Most People, especially collectors and dealers, are interested to some degree in old jewelry. And a favorite time in history for romance and jewelry was the Victorian era. Queen Victoria ascended to the throne in 1837 and the world was about to change with the Queens reign and the Industrial Revolution. The romance and wedding of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert in 1841 took on a new interest in sentimental and romantic jewelry. Victoria's engagement ring from… Continue
